Drama drama drama

SO much has happened since my last post.

I flew to Rochester and joined my two best friends for a laughter-filled weekend. The occasion: S's wedding shower. We were worried the shower would be filled with tacky lingerie and raunchy jokes, instead it was the three of us that started with the off-color humor. Oops... We were good at the party, but let's just say there could be a bumper sticker reading, "My butt was smacked in S's bed!"

On the flight home I chatted with a guy across the aisle for two hours. DEEP conversation about walking away from church but not from God, living in the Bay area, teaching, dreams, long-term relationships. He was an amazing guy and suggested that we exchange email and phone info so that Jrex and I could join him and his partner in Berkely for dinner. I've never exchanged personal info on a plane before, and we haven't yet had occasion for a double-date with a gay couple. I've had lots of gay friends ('honey, some of my best friends are gay!') but never the double-date. I loved talking with him and look forward to meeting his husband (they got married in the brief window when San Francisco did gay marriages).

I found out this morning that Friday is my last day at the gaming company. Not because I've been Dooced or anything (fired for blogging about work), rather their work load is slowing for the summer and they don't want to pay for a senior designer. They told me they'd love to have me apply for the position, and I will, but the $13,000 pay cut isn't super appealing. I'm throwing all my feelers out and we'll see what happens. I'm oddly excited. I don't know what's wrong with me, but I love this chance to have a sample platter of jobs in the Bay area.

The wedding shower sounds fun, and it's cool that you were able to connect with a seat-mate. I've never had that experience. I think you should go on that double date. I was working near Civic Center when all the gay weddings happened and I found it incredibly moving.

I'm sorry to hear that your job is ending, and not just because I enjoyed your work posts. I'm sure you'll find something great.

Those seat-mate connections can be life-savers on solo trips...or slightly creepy, depending on who you end up next to. I've run the gammot (spelling?) of giving someone my email at least, to doing everything possible to send "DO NOT TALK TO ME" signals :)

So, when I need advice or sympathy on change issues, you'll be a good one to talk to, huh? Glad you are able to roll with it and enjoy rather than stress out!

I tend to enjoy change in jobs - sometimes it's nice to tackle new challenges. I guess you still have an option of taking the new position - or do you not want to commit to that knowing you'll be looking for something different?

I miss being around old friends - the ones with whom I can share off-color jokes.

It IS rare that you find a seat-mate you connect with - I'm usually next to someone who wants to know where I'm from and then lists people from Korea he/she knows.

You go, girl.

Taking job changes as exciting challenges is the best way to fly.

We're hoping for great results. Know that you're in our prayers.

I admire your attitude about the job changes. I tend to be frozen with fear of the unknown when it comes to changing jobs. You have a great outlook.

Your trip sounds like a blast. I've had a couple of those connect-with-your-seatmate conversations, too, and they sure make a long plane ride more enjoyable. I hope you and Jrex can meet up with your new friend and his husband soon.
