WAY too much info for the men...

I'm telling you now, Dad, Uncle Quip, Uncle Deer Slayer, move away from this blog post. Do not proceed any further...

(though, Uncle Quip, as a family doc, this might be good to pass on to your patients)

Saturday morning, Snickollet mentioned The Diva Cup in this post. I checked out the website and decided I should try it. An easy bike ride gets me to a Whole Foods which sells it. However, as a woman skilled at Good Intentions with little follow-through, I would have normally have forgetten about it by Sunday.

Friday night I'd called Workaholic's Wife to see if she had time to hang out on Saturday. This new friend is married to a guy who runs a start-up company. She's struggled a great deal with what marriage is supposed to look like when an 'early' dinner is at 7:30 pm. Hey, welcome to my world, sistah! Needless to say, she was quite happy (and available) to hang out.

Now, SHE's the one who suggested window shopping at Anthropologie and wandering around Palo Alto. The fact that we walked by Whole Foods on the very same day as my Diva Cup Discovery meant that she had to endure my quest to procure it. I told her what I was looking for and was surprised she'd heard of it from another friend. She said, "You have to let me know if it works. They must be really popular if I've heard about it from more than one person," she paused as a thought struck her, "Oh wait, we live in California."

[Gentlemen: Don't complain that I didn't warn you.]

All that is to tell you that my cycle started today and I LOVE The Cup. You only have to change it twice a day, no risk of Toxic Shock, no leaking, no more land-fill contributions, no risk of running out of supplies and no smell. I can't really run around work and evangelize my new discovery, so I'm inflicting it on you. As Snick said, 'you have to be comfy with your girly parts, but then, shouldn't we all be comfortable with them?' I feel like I've entered a whole new era of freedom from the tyranny of Bloody Bondage!!

OK. Sorry. I got a little carried away there. Um. What I meant to say was, you should check it out. NOW! I mean, that is, if you want to.

I read that blog entry from Snickollet too and was also intrigued. I researched my closest store (unfortunately not quite as convenient as yours). But then I don't live in California.

I had already been considering getting one. I had just happened to find out about them through one of those random internet searches where one thing leads to another (don't even ask how - I hardly remember). Snickollet's entry on it got me back in gear to get moving and order one. Mom's gonna try it too. I'm glad to hear you like it - I'm excited to try it :)

Hooray for more Diva converts! I'm glad it's meeting your expectations. Too add to the TMI, I'm a pretty heavy bleeder and I did overflow one day, so I've taken to checking on things at lunch and in the evening. But still. WAY better than tampons or pads. Cheaper! Better for the environment! No chemicals in your body! Hooray for the DivaCup!

It's hard to resist the TMI cause I'm so excited. I just love leaving for work without my discreet case of supplies. Nothing like toting your Burberry (Korean MIL, what can I say?) 'makeup' bag to the bathroom at work to proclaim "Guess what time of month it is?!".

On the bike? No pad annoyance to worry about.

It's convenient we have a bathtub right by the toilet at home. I wouldn't want to have to move much to deal with it, if you know what I mean.

Okay, now you've got me intrigued. I read about it on Snickollet's site too, and thought it would be too hard to use. But now, I simply have to try it. It should be interesting to see how it does on a camping trip....just have to figure out how not to attract bears. =)

As for the comment you left on my blog today, that's exactly what we are thinking. Henry David and I both find it rather interesting that we are being hit with all these things right as we are trying to help a particular someone who has a serious need, and right at the same time I'm being opened up to a whole new depth in our faith. We've decided to just think that we "must be doing something right" if all of this is going on. Thanks for the encouragement you left on my post. I needed it, and am very grateful.

Well, that was a coincidence because I just read Snickollet's post. I'd like to get away from tampons, but I'm not especially adventurous so we'll see.

I've been using a similar product - "Instead" cups for 7 years. I've found them at wa1greens and t4rget.
Can't even think about going back to other methods.

It almost makes me wish I was still getting my period so I could try it....well, maybe not - jf

I read about it on Snickollet's site, but I can't even use tampons. Instead I'm thinking about getting the IUD Mirena which is said to "shorten, lighten or even eliminate your periods—after one year of use." So I'm hoping that I'll be one of the lucky ones with no period in a year :)

I used a similar product in the 80s Tassaway cups they were great when new but soon developed a crease. Hope this product is of a higher reliability.

Even in Wisconsin we can find alternative period products. I had been getting a horrible rash every time I got my period, so I started researching other products. (It only took me a year to figure out that it was the plastics in disposable pads that was giving me the rash.) My sister uses cloth diapers for her baby, so she told me that there were menstrual products listed on the website where she gets her diapers. I found the website www.lunapads.com and I could not be happier. I now use "Sea Pearls", a natural sea sponge used as a tampon alternative. You get them damp, squeeze out the water and insert. You change them every few hours, run it under water and reinsert. There is almost NO leakage (or only on day 2), I can't feel them (unlike tampons), they are not drying. I LOVE them. They cost about $10-15 for two and they last about 8 cycles. I also use the washable cotton pads at lunapads. They have very small mini pads which are great. No more rashes!! I have been thinking so much about this lately and how we as women are not informed of other choices out there. I'm so glad I am not wasting money on tampons and pads and I am not contributing even more than I already do to landfills.
