Feast or Famine

Nothing may come of this, but one of my freelance clients here might sign some big contracts in the next couple weeks. He's talking about buying me out of my new job if that happens. It's an exciting proposition since I'd functionally be doing the total design for a start-up company. It would keep me involved in branding and interactive design (which would really help my portfolio...) Anyone know the ethics in that kind of situation? How much time do I owe the job I'm about to start?

Well, that sounds fun, but risky. It's interesting that this happened just after you wrote about the job/ career dilemma, almost like a sign or something. When it rains, it pours, eh? I usually give two week's notice before quitting.

You think you just have a job and then a career walks in the door . . . the timing is sure interesting!

Not sure about the quitting dilemma. I'd usually give two weeks, but this is not a typical situation. Sorry I'm not more help.

Sounds exciting. Can you maybe give the new place a heads-up from the beginning that this is a possibility? Then maybe you wouldn't have to give them a full two weeks notice.

I'm also thinking that while the second company is still in start-up mode, maybe I work 3 ten hour days at Company 1 and two days from home for Company 2?

Who knows, nothing may come of it, but it's a weird situation to even have to think about.
